Musikgarten @ Melodyway (All Ages: Babies - Seniors)

The Musikgarten classes offered at Melodyway Music Studios are designed to nurture the child’s music aptitude by engaging children and their families in singing and movement activities which help attune the ear, refine the voice, and develop a rhythmic body through which music can be expressed. Additionally, instrumental activities are part of the program, ranging from playing simple rhythm instruments such as sticks and drums for babies and toddlers to playing keyboards for older children. Research has shown that we are all born with an aptitude for music, but that aptitude diminishes if it is not actively nurtured between the ages of birth and nine. 

Musikgarten is the only program that offers curricula for newborns through group piano instruction. It is based on a keen understanding of how children learn, in both a general sense and, specifically, how they learn music.

Musikgarten for Babies (Newborns - 18 Months) (Year-Round)

All babies are born with an aptitude for music. But research shows that their aptitude diminishes if it is not nurtured. The best way to nurture a child's music aptitude is through active music making. By singing and dancing for and with our children in a variety of tonalities, meters and styles we are helping our children reach their full music potential.

This class offers adults the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting, experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his or her curiosity about music. By singing, dancing, bouncing, and rocking, the child's music aptitude is being carefully nurtured, laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production, and aural discrimination.

Activities include singing, bouncing songs, rocking songs, dances, finger plays, body awareness games and echoes.

Musikgarten for Toddlers (16 months - 3 Years) (Year-Round)

These weekly classes are action-filled for toddlers - full of energy, often on the move, always exploring and learning - and their parents. Together ll sing, chant, move, dance, listen, and play simple instruments, all activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement through four wonder-filled semesters.

Each lesson features movement activities for coordination, body awareness and control, exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm sticks, jingles, rattles, drums, and resonator bars. Additionally, you will receive a wonderful CD, a parent activity book, an instrument, and a scarf to use at home for more fun time together.

Musikgarten for Preschoolers (Ages 3 & 4) (Year-Round)

Celebrate your preschooler’s growing independence and love of the outdoors with activities involving the four seasons in The Cycle of Seasons.. Developed to build attention and self-expression, activities include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement and storytelling. TheCycle of Seasons nurtures your growing child’s ability to use language and participate in dramatic play within a musical context.

Fun family packets including wonderful music CDs are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process.

Musikgarten for Kindergarteners (Ages 5 & 6) (Year-Round)

Your child will be engaged in activities that establish a solid music-making foundation. This year focuses on your child’s fascination with nature and develops a love of instruments. Your child will be introduced to the sounds of orchestral instruments individually, and then in the context of an ensemble. Such a listening foundation will lead to long-term success with music reading in future classes.

Music Makers: At the Keyboard I (Ages 6 - 9 Years) (Year-Round)

The final step on the pathway to music literacy, this program is designed to teach the children to play the songs they've been hearing, singing, and dancing to throughout the years of early-childhood. An extension of the work done in Music Makers: Around the World, this class follows a very sequential approach to building piano skills and understanding musical notation as set forth in the books, Music Makers: At the Keyboard.

Children will receive 2 books, including 4 CDs and notation games plus a Parent Handbook throughout the 26 weeks.

Musikgarten for Adults (Year-Round)

For many adults, playing the piano may be a life-long dream of theirs, and Musikgarten has a curriculum designed to enable you to help adults fulfill that dream. We believe that anyone and everyone can enjoy making music in a meaningful way. Through the activities and lesson plans in Musikgarten for Adults you will learn how to guide the adults in your group and to help them achieve success.

You will find the group class a fun and enjoyable experience. Previous music experience and perceived talent are not required. Hours of dedicated time and practice are not required. You only need a love of music and the desire to make music!

This stress-free method of learning piano offers many benefits to the class beyond the magic of making music with others. Recent scientific studies have established the connection between active music-making and improved physical wellness. Musikgarten for Adults is a unique opportunity for social interaction, providing much needed creative fitness for the mind and body.

Melodyway Musikgarten Policies

Dress for “moving and dancing!”:

Food, toys or other "distractions" often cause problems rather than provide comfort when brought into music class. Since another child might want your child’s drink or stuffed animal, it is often easier to leave those things at home or in the car.

OBSERVATIONS:

Understand that all children learn at different rates and in different ways.  Some children will be quiet in class, others will be active.  Some children will do everything perfectly at home, but not in class.  As a parent, you know that every child is unique, so check your comparisons at the door and let the music work it's magic!
